Albert Duane Hotz Samuelson, age 79 passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at his home in Boca Raton surrounded by members of his family.
He was born in Brookville, Kansas to Albert Hotz and Irene Plasmyer and was later adopted by Alfred and Pauline (Plasmyer) Samuelson. He grew up in Kansas and California. Duane was a brilliant and talented engineer, working in California, Illinois, Michigan and Florida. Early in his career, he designed the life support systems of the two-man space capsule Gemini, as well as other innovative systems for the aerospace industry. He and his partner founded Predator Systems Incorporated in Boca Raton, a company that developed and produced cutting edge technology for aircraft and military systems. Duane designed many systems throughout his life, with over 300 patents. Over the years, Duane enjoyed car races, bowling, and golf, and was a member of the Elks. But his truest joy came from spending time with his family, who felt his love for them.
Duane is survived by his wife Barbara (Uzelac); children Duane Samuelson, Julie Welch and Lisa Chamberlain (Chuck); Chris Rowland (RaDawnna), Jeanette Simon (Doug) and Jerry Rowland, along with 29 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and brothers Marvin Samuelson, Alan Hotz, George Reinhard and Ed Reinhard.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton.
