Albert DeVencenzo

In Loving Memory of :
Albert De Vencenzo ( December 25, 1945 - April 12, 2017 ) passed away suddenly but peacefully Wednesday afternoon at the Delray Medical Center.

An educator most of his life, he spent the last twenty years in The School District of Palm Beach County.  Initially teaching at Congress Middle School, "Mr. D" transferred to Spanish River High School to teach Social Studies in the ESOL program.  He later moved to Olympic Heights High School when that program was consolidated.  A superior educator, he was passionate about helping his students assimilate into their new country.  He hung flags from every student's country of origin to make them feel special and included.  He retired in 2015.

Al and his partner, Bob, traveled the world together, collecting treasures from the various countries they visited.  Al loved to plan and organize their trips, often surprising Bob with their new destination.  As part of their adventures,  Al really enjoyed the various international cuisines and at home he was always looking to continue those culinary experiences.

A patron of the Arts, Al appreciated all forms of artistic expression.  He attended many local and international art exhibits, often organizing family and friends to join in the experience.  He especially appreciated wood turned crafts, blown glass, paintings and ceramics.  In addition, his other interests were to collect mint coin/stamp sets and collectable bears.  A "Classic Movie" buff, his favorites being "The Godfather" series, and also enjoyed British theatrical productions.  He was often called upon to give his expertise in this area.

Known as Uncle "Junie" by his family, he was a kind, generous and extremely thoughtful man. A definite "Renaissance Man", he will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving partner of twenty years, Robert Williams, his sister, Elaine King and her husband James, his brother, Dr. Marc DeVencenzo, his brother-in law Kenroy Thorsten and his wife Ann, his sister- in -law Geraldine Thorsten and sister-in-law Lili Otto and husband Joe.  He was the beloved Uncle of Allison North, Alexandra Sarka, Tammy Palacios, Billy and Jason Moody, Kathryn Tressie Scharf, Nicole Marie Otto, Julia Mamun, Betty Lofton, James Thorsten, six grand nieces and eight grand nephews.
