Katherine Elizabeth Martin was welcomed with open arms into the glory of her Lord and Savior on August 1, 2012. She was 22 years old. Katherine was born in Meridian, Mississippi on November 14, 1989. She was raised in Ruston, Louisiana and moved to South Florida in 2000. Katherine graduated with High Honors from the International Baccalaureate program at Atlantic High School and graduated in December 2011 from the University of Florida with High Honors with a bachelor’s degree in Communications Disorders. She was to begin her graduate studies in Speech Pathology at Florida State University in August.
Katherine exuded a light that surpassed this world’s understanding. She loved her family, Mateo, music, singing, dancing and running. Her passion in life was to spread the gospel. Her passion was in telling others about how they could know her Savior and was blessed in mentoring younger students in their walk with Jesus. It was her smile that drew people to her and it was her joyful spirit that kept them close.
Katherine lives on in the hearts of everyone she touched. She leaves behind her parents Dan and Kim Martin and sister Madeleine; maternal grandmother Gloria Young, paternal grandparents Fred & Patsy Martin; & her intended Mateo Echeverry. She will be missed by her aunts and uncles: Mark Young, Robyn Young, Karla & Mark Overdyk, Michael Young and Richard Bartholomew, Jenny & Richard Gellasch; loving cousins; Alex, Erik, Jack, Mathea, Lacey, Tait, and Kip, as well as scores of many other relatives, classmates and brothers and sisters in Christ. Rejoicing at Katherine’s arrival in heaven is her brother Austin, grandfather “Papa” Karl Young and uncle Jeff Martin.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 6:00-8:00pm at Glick Family Funeral Home. A Memorial Service in remembrance of our sweet Katherine will begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 7th at First Baptist Church of Boynton Beach with Dr. Buz McNutt officiating. Memorials may be sent to Cypress Church (Gator Christian Life), PO Box 14082, Gainesville, FL 32604, Memo Katherine Martin Memorial.

Dear Kim, Dan, Madeline, and Mateo:
I am a friend of Karla and Mark here in Louisville. I am so very sorry for the loss you must feel in the core of your very being and for the extremely difficult struggle you must be having with the question we always ask when something like this happens - "why". Every indication is that Katherine spent her life loving the Lord and so it is my hope that this one thing will bring you a shred of peace and contentness...knowing that she is truly home. To you Mateo: it is my prayer for you that your memories will give you the strength you need to continue on in this life without her...I am sorry for the sadness you must feel to watch Katherine's death dictate your future without her...sometimes this life is so painful.
Lean on God to help you all find peace and understanding. Sending lots of love and prayers your way...
Sincerely,
Beth Beckovich

I attending UF with Katherine and got to know her through GCL. I recall the first time her and Mateo attended our Bible Study. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know her over the past 4 years. I am thankful for the special moments we had together, like singing worship to God in the middle of our campus, or going to Spain on a mission trip... She was a a wonderful woman of God and she will be missed. I look forward to seeing her again.

Dearest Kim, Danny and Madeline,
Our hearts break for you with the loss of Katherine. We just had dinner with Gloria, Karla and Alex last week and Gloria''s face lit up as she spoke of Katherine!
I remember our days at Pine Cove closing ceremonies and later when Katherine was a Baby Routh, seeing the light in her eyes and beautiful smile! She affected so many lives with her contagious love for Jesus! You have the assurance of knowing that as she entered Heaven, her Lord greeted her saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
We continue to pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding to be with all of your family and all those who love Katherine!

Dear Martin Family:
I met Katherine at Trinity Lutheran School. We played softball together. The memory that sticks out in my head the most was when we were playing at Advent Lutheran and she was in the outfield next to me and she went for a pop fly and the sun got in her eyes and the ball popped her right in the forehead! She had a lump the size of an egg! She was such a happy girl and I loved running into her at UF. I found this bible verse and I hope you take solace in it.
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am." - John 14:1-3

Dan and Kim,
What heart wrenching news we received about Katherine! Our prayers immediately went up for you both and we contacted our children to let them pray as well. We know that words are not able to adequately express your grief nor our affection for you, but we send our support heavenward and to you as well. May the Lord comfort you as only He is able. Praise Him for Katherine's life and for her devotion to Him.

Kim, Dan and Madeline:
When I think of Katherine, I see her smile. I remember the day Katherine came to Trinity and Lindsey came home and said, "a new girl started today and she is really pretty and nice". Only years later (recently), Lindsey told me what an impact Katherine had on her in high school as Lindsey admired Katherine''''s faith and her close daily walk with Christ. Lindsey said it helped her so much in her own faith and walk too. I can''''t imagine how many others can say this same thing. Her time her on earth was short, but I am sure she made a huge impact. I struggled with what to say to you all and today is Monday, August 6th and the Daily Word I was reading says it all. I have written it below:
The topic was Comfort: "My heart is comforted to know my loved ones are in God''''s care. Whether in the next room, a distant country or beyond the physical realm, they are enfolded in divine love. Although people dear to me may be beyond my sight, they are with me in spirit. I am comforted knowing neither time, nor distance, nor physical separation can diminish our heart and soul connection." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 - Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with all of you.
Lindsey is on a plane right now with Lindsay B. to Florida, and I am so glad she was able to come. Please know all of you are in our thoughts and prayers daily.
Love from,
Grace, Lindsey & Jack

I am so sorry for your loss. I understand so much what you are going through, as I have been there myself. My daughter, April, died the very same way 14 years ago and she was just finishing college and was 23 years old.
Please know I am praying for you and your family. I have been asked many times, "How did you survive?" My answer is always the same, "I had no other choice". But then I know you have also been there before. Twice for a parent.......I am just so very sorry and will keep you and your family in my thoughts!!

I just saw the very sad news of Katherine which put me in absolute shock! Its been about 3 years since I have last seen/talked her at Spanish River Church. Katherine always had a beautiful smile that could light the room and was such a uplifting person to be around. She was at youth group every week and we have been on the same group trips and fundraisers over the years. I will never forget her and how she made me want not only want to be a better person, but be a better Christian.. It pains me inside to know I lost touch with someone that truly inspired me over those years...
I'm praying for your family, friends and boyfriend to help get through this hard time. I have lost a few people just this year that were close to me at some point in my life and I know it never gets easier.
Katherine- I'm blessed and thankful that I knew you and one day we will all meet again. God Bless.

I think of Katherine all the time. I strive to be like her - selfless and caring. Whenever I say Kaddish for Katherine in Israel (where I am spending the year volunteering for a Jewish program called OTZMA) tears stream into my eyes.
Thank you for helping to raise such a beautiful person. When I knew her in high school, she was an ANGEL. She has forever changed my life.
