Remedios Baquial Rivera died Sunday, April 15 after developing an acute and unexpected lung disease.  She was 86.

She was born on February 18, 1926 in Quezon City, Philippines as the eldest of eight children.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Aristeo M. Rivera, who will turn 96 on Thursday.

She worked as a secretary for hospital administration at St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois from the 1970's.  After multiple attempts to quit work, she finally retired in 2008.  Even after that, she continued to cook Filipino food for her former colleagues.  She also taught piano to many children and families throughout Chicago.  She retired to Boca Raton, Florida to be near her daughter Maricor Wall.  She has three grandchildren Joy Kunishige Wanamaker, Lani Kunishige Terry, and Marie Christine Wall.

"She was the most understanding and beautiful woman I ever met, that's why I married her!" says her husband.  "She was a noble woman."  She was unselfish, caring, unconditionally loving, and a devout Catholic always praying for others.  She enjoyed winning jackpots, shopping, politics, and sports.  Go Bears!  Go Cubbies!  And of course, go Bulls!

Dear Tata, Maricor, Joy, Lani and Marie -

We all suffered a terrible loss with Nana's passing. It's so hard to let her go and accept that she's no longer with us. But the people we loved will always be with us in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

Like you I loved Nana and will miss her, but I know that from up there, she'll continue to care for others and help us all out like she's always done.

Sending you my deepest condolences with love and a big hug!
Alessia

Dear Rusty, Maricor, Joy, Lani & Marie: My deepest condolences to you on the loss of our beloved Remy. She and I shared an office together for over a decade at St. Elizabeth''s hospital and became close friends over the years. Even after I resigned in 1998 we always kept in touch. I loved Remy and will truly miss her. I was saddened to hear of her passing, but rejoice knowing that she''s in God''s hands. She spoke often & fondly of her family. May God''s angles of peace & comfort surround you all. Prayerfully, Georgia
