Thomas John Nicholson

Thomas J. Nicholson, 88, of Boca Raton passed away peacefully at Hospice by the Sea on Friday, April 29, 2016.   Tom’s journey began in Staten Island where he was born on March 5, 1928 to Thomas and Mary Nicholson.  After graduating from Curtis High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1946.

Upon his honorable discharge; he joined the NY Police Academy.  He had a 20+ career with the NYPD before his retirement in 1979.  Soon after, the Nicholson’s moved to Boca Raton, but Tom was not fully ready to retire and took employment with the Boca Raton Community Hospital for the next 10 years.  

Tom and his wife Ellen were active in their Catholic faith; they supported the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and were active parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Tom leaves behind his loving wife and life partner, Ellen Margaret Nicholson.  He is also survived by daughter Mary and son-in-law James Simon of North Carolina, and son Thomas Nicholson of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren Jaime Lee and Laura Simon, as well as many extended family, nieces and nephews.  Tom will be missed dearly by his family.  Tom was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Bill and Jerry Clifford, with whom he shared many wonderful times.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00-8:00pm at Glick Family Funeral Home.  The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00am.   He will be laid to rest with military funeral honors at 12:45pm at South Florida National Cemetery.
