Richard Nelson Boos

Richard Nelson Boos, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children the evening of December 3, 2017. 

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 9, 1927, as the elder son of George F. and Ethel I. (Nelson) Boos.  He grew up in the Rosedale Park community of Detroit, graduating from Detroit Redford High School.  He soon enlisted in the United States Navy, then qualifying for the V5 naval pilot training program.  The next year he spent in Hoboken, New Jersey attending a required engineering course at Stephens Institute of Technology.  As he left for Pensacola, Florida for flight training, the United States dropped bombs on Hiroshima and then Nagasaki resulting in his diversion to Vallejo, California at their Merit Island submarine base.  As a sub tender he was involved in the engineering, rebuilding and maintenance of the fleet. 

Once discharged, he enrolled at Michigan State University, then transferred to and received his BS in Business Administration from Wayne State University.  While at MSU he met his first loving wife and the mother of his five children, the late Suzanne E Noon.  The first 35 years of his career he was a proudly self-employed manufacturer’s representative in the auto industry.  He met and then married in 1980 the love of his life, his soul-mate, Carolann (Fekety) Boos mother of his two stepsons.  In 1985, they relocated to Highland Beach Florida to the home in which he subsequently passed after many joyful years.

Richard loved life passionately and was a wonderful, caring, smart and fun-loving dad, brother, and husband.  He was a skilled athlete, playing baseball and hockey in his younger years, then an avid skier and tennis player.  But his true sports love was sailing.  He sailed the Great Lakes and later easily obtained his US Coast Guard Master Captain’s license.  He was a charter captain for guests of the Boca Raton Resort for many years and there are legends of his sailing skill told by fellow captains. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife Suzanne. Richard is survived by his wife Carolann, brother Warren (Beverly), daughters Linda (Tom Kucway), Virginia (Donald Runkle), Patricia Boos (Keith Evavold), Suzanne Boos (Victor Covelli), son Richard Jr (Ginger), stepsons Jason (Melinda) and Corey (Johanna), 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 nephews and 3 nieces and his loving dog Cuddee.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Connected Life Christian Church of Boca Raton on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 10am.
