Randolph James Pierce

March 6, 1954 ~ August 1, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Randy Pierce died in hospice after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 63.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn (Carrie), step-daughter Jayci Ann Fischer, both of Boca Raton and his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Lynne Pierce of Weston, Florida. His mother, Elizabeth Mueller, died in 2012 and his step-father, Herbert Mueller died in 1998, both in Columbus, Ohio. Randy was the VP of Business Development for Gerrits Construction of Boca Raton.

 

Randy was born in Dayton, moved to Columbus and graduated as a National Merit Scholar from Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1975 and went to St. Louis University where he studied both law and hospital administration, receiving combined degrees, MHA, JD in 1979. He worked at the Ohio State University Medical Center for 8 years and moved to Florida in 1988. He came to Boca Raton (Community) Regional Hospital as Vice-President in 1988, later became COO and then served as President and CEO for 7 years until 2002. He later worked as the Executive VP of Association Advancement for the YMCA of South Palm Beach County, was on the Board of A&W Products, Port Jervis, NY, worked as COO for JB Painting and Waterproofing, Deerfield Beach, FL and worked as the Southeast Director of Business Development for CBIZ Corp. / Meridian Insurance Group, Boca Raton, FL. 

 

As a boy and young man Randy loved fishing, camping and hiking in the mountains, especially in Colorado. Later he became an avid and excellent golfer. He sang, played guitar, composed music and organized frequent and exuberant jam sessions. He was a strong supporter of The Ohio State University and Buckeye teams. Randy had a warm smile, infectious laugh and a generous heart.  He was a true and loyal friend to many.  Any encounter with Randy ended with a smile on your face and an uptick in your day. Randy embraced life to the fullest with spirit, optimism, humor and music. He made it known to all in the last decades of his life that his greatest joy was his wife, Carrie.

 

A memorial service will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home on Friday, August 25th, 2017 beginning a 3:30pm. Following the service, a Celebration of Life/Reception for Randy will be held at The Addison at 5:30pm.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Lynn Cancer Institute.
