Philip Berkley, of Boca Raton, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2015. He was 96 .
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the eldest of four brothers. His three brothers predeceased him. He lived in Paramus, N.J. and Holmdel, N.J., before retiring to Boca Raton Fl. in 1975.
Upon high school graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While in service he sustained combat-related injuries. His technical career began at Clark Equipment, and he became an expert in the maintenance, repair and utilization of propane equipment. For many years he owned Berkley Propane, in Newark, N.J.
While in New Jersey he was one of the founders of the New Jersey Association for Brain Injured Children which became known as the New Jersey Association for Children with Learning Disabilities.
In his early years of retirement , Phil became an avid tennis player. Phil, Ann, and Steven loved to entertain family and friends at their home.
Predeceased by his wife of 64 years, the former Ann Frank of Frenchtown, N.J., he was the father of Steven Berkley, also of Boca Raton.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6 at Glick Family Funeral Home in Boca Raton.
