Patrick George O'Meally Berry

Patrick Berry, 79, of Coral Springs, Florida passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.  Service of celebration for Patrick will be on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Glick Family Funeral Home.  Visitation and paying of respects will begin at 12 Noon, prior to the celebration of his life.

Patrick was born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 5, 1937. He was the youngest of five brothers, each born 5 years apart.  Patrick began his working career early in life in the field of Hardware and sales.  He worked for many years at Rapid Vulcanizing Co. in Kingston where he not only learned the trade but also adopted an incredible work ethic from the founder, A.C. Campbell.  His career eventually progressed to construction where he constructed roads and site developments at Lye Corporation.  Patrick’s work ethic would later serve him well in life. 

In 1961, Patrick met his eventual wife, Merlene Graham, and then in 1966 he married the love of his life.  Patrick and Merlene lived in Kingston while raising five children: Carlene, Judith, Jacqueline, Andrew, and Tricia and maintained a long distance relationship with daughters Jackie and Charmaine.  He was a hard working provider and always found time to be with family and friends.

In 1977, Patrick and Merlene decided to migrate to the United States looking for better opportunities for his family and young children.  With help from his Brother, Rudolph, the family was able to transition to a new country with new opportunities.  Patrick immediately found menial work to provide for his family, but continued to seek for the kind of work that would make his family comfortable.  He eventually found work with growth opportunity, and in a short time became an integral part of the business.  His employment at Acrylux Paint allowed him to work with his children —he was able work with each one teaching and nurturing hard work and dedication.  In late 2000, Patrick became an owner of Acrylux Paint.  Then in December 2004, Patrick and Merlene became citizens of this amazing country.

With each passing year, Patrick became more and more family oriented.  He spent countless weekends with all of his kids and grandkids, watching NASCAR, cooking and having a beer.  His amazing whit and sense of humor was enjoyed by all. Even in his days of sickness and hardship, he would still make a joke.  His loving spirit and generosity was always evident—he always showed his love every chance he had.  His passing will be felt by all family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.

Patrick Berry is survived by his wife Merlene  “G”, his brother Rudolph, his daughters Carlene, Judith, Jacqueline, Jackie, Charmaine, Tricia, his son Andrew and grandkids Gavin, Gabrielle, Jonathan, Jacob, Elisabeth, Zachary, Chloe,  Jennette, Stefanie, Michelle, Anthony, Ciro, Michael, Lucas, Mason, Colin, Colton, and Cayden and many great-grandkids.
