Morton Streger

February 29, 1932 ~ March 21, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Morton (Mort) Streger, 85, resident of Deerfield Beach, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Born in 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of David and Gladys Streger, Mort resided in New York and retired in Florida. Mort graduated from the New York School of Printing in 1950 and later returned there as a teacher of printing and graphic arts. Following high school he was honored to serve his country by voluntarily enlisting in the United States Navy. He served from 1951 to 1955 and is a Korean War Veteran. He was assigned to the USS Strickland and USS Melvin and was decorated with the National Defense Medal and Navy Occupational Medal.

 

He was married in 1959 to Dorothy Gleit for 17 years and together they had a son and daughter. Mort leaves behind his son Jeffrey, daughter Beth (Pam), son-in-law Nephtaly Carrion, daughter-in-law Lisa and 5 grandchildren: Vincent, David, Maria, Nicole and Julia and a beloved sister Roberta and brother-in-law Eugene Sapolsky, nephews Ronald and Brian, niece Felicia Taubenfeld and grand niece and nephew, Gabrielle and Gordon.

 

Mort spent many years proudly serving at the American Legion Post 162 of Deerfield Beach, Florida where he held various roles including Commander and CFO.  

 

A funeral service will be held March 26, 2017 in Boca Raton, Florida. A Celebration of Life is planned for extended family at a later date.
