Joe became my father in law in 1999. Although he no longer was my father in law, he remained part of my family in my heart and remained a very dear and close friend to my parents. My parents visited many times in Florida and he always opened his home to them. He would make a CD of mixed music for their drive home every time they came to visit. My dad said he loved these CDs because you never knew what he was going to put on them ( everything from the Eagles, to the Beatles to a song about a frog jumping on a lilly pad). He was always thinking of other people and offering help to others. He never EVER complained and always had a warm smile on his face. He was a wonderful father in law and friend and grandpa to my children. He will live in my heart, in a very special place, forever. ~ Molly

I perhaps have known Joe longer than any living IBMer. I met and worked with him from 1957 in Endicott, NY. We moved together on the same project to Boca Raton, FL in 1968. I have had the privilege to not only know him, but also to spend many exciting times with him playing golf, bowling and even running around having a beer or two.
I even had the challenge of attempting to manage Joe for a number of years. Joe's request was always, "Tell me what needs to be done, get out of the way, and I will get it done". I called Joe " My Pennsylvania Coal Miner", because he just quietly dug in, got the job done, and wanted no special credit or recognition. I am not the only manager over the years that attempted to give him a special monitory award, only to have Joe tell me he didn't deserve it, wouldn't accept it, and where I could stuff it. He was one of a kind, and I will dearly miss him. ------ Jud

I first met Joe in March 1971.... I had taken my first job in the lab. I had worked in Manufacturing Engineering at I.B.M. and the systems job that I took was in real trouble... Joe was assigned from another systems area and was on loan.... He hated to argue, but quietly went around solving our problems.. He would not take the award that I had for him and would not work for me, as we had become close friends.. He would not work for friends as it exposed their cracks... He was one of the most principled individual that I have ever met....We will miss Joe....
