Joan Irene Freedman

Joan Irene Freedman of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on October 4, 2017 after a long illness.

Joan was born in New York City, N.Y. on January 11, 1931. She was raised in N.Y.C. and also resided in Sands Point and Mill Neck, New York.  She was a graduate of Mary Mount College and modeled for American milliner G. Howard Hodge.  Joan married Albert H. Merkel, Jr. and devoted her life to her family and raising her children, Susan and Stephen. Joan will be remembered for her amazing sense of style and fashion, passion for decorating, entertaining, and her skill at floral arranging. She was a perfectionist at everything she did from setting a table to her impeccable appearance. She was truly beautiful inside and out. Joan loved the beach, shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue, antiquing and the time she spent volunteering at North Shore Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan P. Merkel of Boca Raton, FL., son Stephen Merkel of Glen Cove, N.Y., brothers John B Maurer of N.Y.C, N.Y. and  Richard Maurer of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Glick Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Hwy. on Thursday October 12th, 2017 at 11 A.M.
