Homer Hubert Hill

August 2, 1928 ~ November 12, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Homer Hubert Hill, Jr. (“Herby”), passed away 12 November, 2015, following a long illness and in the care of hospice.

Herby, as he was known, was born in Miami, Florida on 2 August, 1928, to Homer Sr. and Anna Hill.  His adolescence was spent in Oglethorpe, Georgia with his parents and younger sibling, Sally.  Homer joined the Army Air Corps during the Second World War, was called back upon learning of his father’s death, and moved back to Miami with his mother and sister.

Homer married his late wife Grace, nee Graciela de las Mercedes Artigas Besteni from Holguin, Cuba, while attending Embry-Riddle School for Aviation, and upon graduation moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  While living there, he and Grace had three daughters, Rosemary and twins Nancy and Nanette.

Homer led a life of great adventure throughout his chosen field of aviation, spending much time in Latin America, Ethiopia, and many other African nations, Europe and Asia, finally teaching in the U.S., traveling extensively.

Homer and Grace finally settled in Margate, Florida.  He is survived by his daughters Rosemary of Boca Raton, Florida and Charlottesville, Virginia; Nancy of Boynton Beach, Florida; and Nanette of Margate, Florida; his niece Dr. Kelly A. Rankin; his son-in-laws Joseph Erdman, a retired partner of the Proskauer law firm, and Bob McDonald, a songwriter; and his late cousin Edward P. Swan’s children.

Rest in Peace, Herby.  A man loved by many.
