Harriet Sol

Harriet Sol of Delray Beach passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 21, 2016, she was 81 years old. Harriet was born in Waltham Massachusetts to parents Abraham and Alice Curewitz.

 

Harriet attended Waltham High School and Burdett Business School, and then set out to work for her father.

 

Harriet met Ed Sol on a train from Boston to New York, and marrying soon after they raised a family of four children; Jeffrey, Richard, Jonathan, and Jacqueline and now a grandchild, Alice Rose.

 

 

Harriet’s portfolio of work was vast and included working as business manager for Ed’s optometric practice, sisterhood president for her Congregation Beth Am in Framingham, Massachusetts, manager for Arch Paging, and real estate agent for Re/Max.

 

Upon retirement, Harriet and Ed moved to Delray Beach where Harriet worked for tennis teams in Boca and Delray, the Delray Tennis Center for match play, the Andy Roddick Foundation for Children in Distress and the local National Football League chapter charity. Awarded “volunteer of the year” at the Lakes of Delray, Harriet also became a member of the Emergency Response Team. In her spare time Harriet also operated a ham radio.

 

As vice president of the United South County Democratic Club, Harriet organized member trips, served as Democratic precinct leader, and successfully turned out the vote for many election cycles. Harriet was a master fundraiser for candidates in the Democratic orbit organizing luncheons, dinners, breakfasts, and coffees. In addition, she was hired as a community liaison for Morse Life, informing community members of this wonderful resource for assisted living needs.

 

Harriet’s service to the Lakes of Delray, Palm Beach County Democratic Party, and the greater community has been unmatched.

 

Memorial services for Harriet Sol will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home located at 3600 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, on Sunday January 29 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Children's Services Council, 2300 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach 33426, (561) 740- 7000.

 

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Harriet’s life will take place on Sunday January 29, at 1:00 PM. Venue information and details will be forthcoming.
