Ernest Leroy Critchfield

Ernest Leroy Critchfield, born in Lima, Ohio, died on July 14, 2017 in Boca Raton, Florida. 

He is survived by his sister Kay, nephew Robb , and three nieces, Dawn, Emily and Elizabeth.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Donna, and his sister, Anita.  He selflessly became the father to his then wife’s children, Kevin, Ivan, Johanna and Sarah.  He raised them from when they were toddlers, putting them through college and later becoming Grandpa to seven grandchildren. 

Though retired, Ernie was a long time employee of the City of Boca Raton.  Ernie’s favorite things included deep sea fishing, NASCAR and Summers spent on the racing circuit.  He was a MacGyver with anything mechanical in nature and wielded a bit “stick”.  There was nothing he couldn’t fix with a rubber band, duct tape, bubble gum and some WD40.  Ernie was known to talk a stranger’s ear off, boast a tall tale and then stick you with his bar tab – all things that were super annoying at the time but are now dearly missed. 

A private memorial service at sea is planned for the Fall.
