Doris Catherine (Mitchell) Smith

Doris C. Smith, 89, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, in her home in Delray Beach, FL, after a long battle with cancer. Her son Robert and her daughter Diane were by her side.

Doris is pre-deceased by her husband Charles D. Smith, her son Charles D. Smith Jr., and her grandson Chad Smith. She is survived by her children, Robert W. Smith and Diane (Barry) Chandler, her grandchildren, Michael Smith, Scott Smith, and Megan (Derek) Conn, and 2 great- grandchildren, RJ Smith and Samantha Smith.

 She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be missed by all.

Doris, known to everyone as “Dee”, was born on March 15,1926, in Detroit, MI, the only child of Eva and William Mitchell. She married her husband Charles Smith whom she met on a blind date,  on August 2, 1943, at age 17.

Dee and Charlie lived in the Chicago area until they retired to Florida in 1983. Dee enjoyed traveling and visited more than  forty countries. She was an avid tennis player, but most of all, she cherished being with her family and friends. She loved to make others happy and was a caring and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at the Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL 33431 (561-672-1880. At 1:00PM, Sunday, February 14, 2016. A small family gathering will follow at Dee’s home at 13074 Salinas Point Way, Valencia Palms Development, Delray Beach, FL.
