Darlene was employed for 28 years at Publix Super Markets , working at several Boca Raton Locations starting in  1988, untill her last assignment at Loggers Run in West Boca ,which lasted 18 years, and ended with her diagnosis in  2015.   She loved working at Publix , becoming one of their most friendly , popular , efficient, and desirable casheirs.  Darlene had a "legion" of long time , local regular customers.  They were dedicated "lane loyalists" who would only check out through  her lane.  Not only because she was fast , knowledgable , and effecient, but because  she also had a very genuine caring  interest in the personal exchanges, and general chat that a great number of her customers felt drawn to share with her as a friend.  This sad loss of Darlene , her kind, pleasant smile, her joyous inviting personality, along with her unique ,beautiful spirit , will be long remembered , and painfully mourned by her family , her friends, and her customers.

Darlene had also asked her family, and friends  to promise , that should she lose her battle  , they would personally go visit ,and thank her Doctors , and all those special people at the LYNN CANCER INSTITUTE Boca & Delray , who went above , and beyond their standard, basic duties ,to make her radiation treatments ,chemo  infusions , and lab bloodwork , as painless , and bearable , as they possibly could.

And true to her unselfish nature, her relentless obsession to survive cancer , was never driven  by  self preservation ,or some deep seated personal fear of death and  dying.  It was simply mother natures ,hardwired, deeply encoded , maternal defense system , that  kicked in the instant any threat to Dars children , her family , or loved ones . The cancer invasion ,that would eventually take Darlenes life from her,   will also take with it a lifetime of hopefull dedication  to ,working , planning , saving and sacrificing that began over 51 years ago , when Darlene and her first love Denny , would lie beneath and old dogwood tree , far enough away from her house , so her mother didnt see the two of them , laughing , sneaking a few kisses.  Then  creating , comparing , and agreeing ,on what each other  would look like when they  got old , and how every thing that they loved back then , would still be the their favorites when they got old.   The best thing  that happened was after they grew much older and  closer to the ages that they  once thought was old ,  They  both  remembered , that  when they passed that age that each had  thoughtt of as  old,  they didnt remind ,or  mention it to each other.  Because he still thought she was still young and beautifull. and repeated that to her  often .  And She didnt mention it or remind him ,because she knew that She still looked young and beautifull .  But she didnt want to have to hurt his feelings by telling him the truth. So she just decided to keep quiet . Goodbye  Darlene , you always were , and will forever remain Beautifull        See ya soon Hoagy!!!!
