Anastasios (Taso) Daskalopoulos, age 85, passed peacefully with his loving wife and adoring daughters by his side on January 5th, 2017.   Taso was born on March 20, 1931 in Kamari, Greece to Efrosini and Sotirios Daskalopoulos.  He was one of six children.  Due to schools being closed as a result of WW II, Taso’s father encouraged the boys in the family to choose a trade.  Taso chose to become a tailor and began working as a apprentice in the next village.  Often times he spoke about the many miles he would walk in order to get to the shop.  He mastered the skill and opened up his own tailor shop in Athens at the age of 25.

Taso met his wife to be, Dora Stamos, through an arranged marriage.  After only knowing each other for two weeks, they were married in Greece on January 14th, 1962.  They then came to the United States and settled in Boise, Idaho where they both had family.  Taso came to the states with limited resources, unable to speak the language, but was still able to find a job.  He was employed by Roper’s Men Store for over 26 years.  His expertise in tailoring made him known around the community as the best tailor in town.  At the age of 56, Taso suffered a heart attack which in turn made him reevaluate his life.  Wanting to open his own tailor shop for many years, his dream came true upon the establishment of Taso’s Tailor Shop in 1986.  He took pride in his work and wanted only the best for his customer’s.  He would often work late hours to complete custom made clothing.  Taso retired at the age of 67 and he and his wife moved to Florida to be with their two daughter’s and their families.

In Florida, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.  He loved nothing more than being in the company of his grandchildren.  He was a hands-on Papou!  He loved the beautiful South Florida weather and spent many hours planting and growing his garden.  Taso and his wife traveled and cruised the islands on many occasions.  He was also very meticulous and his daughter’s joked that one could eat off the floor of his garage!  Taso was a very quiet and humble man, yet a very wise man, who cherished the simple things in life.  He often helped those in need and donated to various charities as he had an extremely generous heart.

Taso was very active in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where he was past Parish President and served on the church board.  He was also a member of the St. Mark’s Greek Orthodox in Boca Raton, Florida.

Taso is survived by his loving wife, Dora, of 54 years, his daughters Lisa (Ronell) Peters, Frances (Alan) Goodstat, his four adoring grandchildren, Taso and Andrea (Andrea being his little Princess), and Zachary and Jake.  He is also survived by his nieces Lia Marangeli, Efi Daskalopoulos, Irene Goodwin, Annamaria Salisbury, nephew Chris Stamos, brother in law, Manuel Stamos and sister in law Georgia Daskalopoulos.  He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Pagona, Maria, Kostandinos, Andreas, and Giorgos.

Special thanks to Dr. Rodney Herr(Boise), who saved his life 29 years ago, Dr. William Owens (Boise) and Dr. Craig Hostig (Margate), Vitas Hospice, and Tracy Parson, Taso’s loving caregiver.
